Abstract

To compare the teeth and dental arch of Korean with those of Caucasian, 55 Koreans(30 males, 25 females) and 56 Caucasians(29 males, 27 females) with normal occlusion were studied.
The each mesiodistal crown diameters of teeth and size of dental arch were measured.
And the means of the measurements were compared according to race, sex and correlation coefficient between upper and lower teeth were compared.
@ES The following results were obtained.
@EN 1. Total tooth size of Korean male was larger 3.16mm(2.77%) in upper, 2.70mm(2.49%) in lower than that of Caucasian male. And total tooth size of Korean female was larger 2.25mm(2.03%) in upper, 2.58mm(2.47%) in lower than that of Caucasian
female(table 1,2).
2. The size was most different in lower second molar and percent was most different in upper first premolar between Korean and Caucasian(table 3,4).
3. Total tooth size of male was larger 3.95mm(2.48%) in upper, 4.33mm(4.05%) in lower than that of female in Korean. And total tooth size of male was larger 3.04mm(2.74%) in upper, 4.21mm(4.03%) in lower than that of female in Caucasian (table
5,6).
4. In sex dimorphism, lower second molar was most different and lower canine was next in both Korean and Caucasian(table 5,6).
5. Intermolar width of Korean was larger than that of Caucasian. Arch length of Caucasian was larger than that of Korean, especially in lower arch(table 7,8,9).
